In so many ways it's become clear to me that this poem is about the experience of having Odin looming over my shoulder wherever I went before I even knew it was Odin. I just knew something felt very off, very lonely.

Death - In Passing

I come with a foot in the grave,
Limping down some broad way,
A scraping, dragging, noisome reek,
“It’s just the wind.” I say.
They hurry on.

I smile – and no one believes it!
‘It’s sinister – a grin!’
My canines flash ferociously,
“A closer walk with thee?” I say.
They look away,
And hurry on.

My hand is gentle – cold and waxy,
A rasping on your shoulder blade,
Like restless leaves – or rotting silk,
“Share this cup with me?” I say.
They shudder,
And hurry on.

I pass politely – not breathing,
‘They cannot hear me now.’
Footprints mark my leaving,
A long, uneven line.
That long exhalation follows – no stranger –
I hurry on.

I was inspired to write this after a 'Celestial Sanctum' meditation. It's rhythm and flavor is quite biblical, really. Odin hasn't completely cornered the market on poetic inspiration. :;
):

Rejoice, Thou Beloved

How beautiful thou art,
O Earth!
How sublime thy secrets,
The trees know-
The wind whispered to them.

How bountiful the fruit of of thy womb-
The sea!
Thy treasures lay hid
Who can know them?
Blessed be thy life!

Praise be to Ea!
May thy travails diminish,
Let thy quaking cease!
For one there is who loves thee,
Above and in and through
All life of thine.

Let thy dreams bear fruit
In the sea of World Divine
That all may bear Witness
To thy faultless Way.

Spin thy dance!
Circle the sun-
E’en the night is blessed
When thy Silver Mountain
Beam!

Already Dead

Go ahead..
Speak softly twisted
From the side of your mouth
You wicked fork-ed tongue.

The message is clear
Easy to read between your
Broken railroad lies
Calling from the grave.

Let those with ears hear
What the spirit says plainly
To those who can say
"
I'm Already Dead."

Wow! I'm envious of people who can compose poetry and lyrics. And can do it well. My ventures in poetry were pitiful! Ha! Laughing

Thank you. Smile I suppose Odin gifted me that way. My best poetry and writing just sort of flies out of my ass spontaneously. If I 'try' I can't produce anything. When I'm inspired it comes out and I feel more like a channel than the person writing it. I scratch my head and say, "
How did I do that?"
I read that in a Kurt Vonnegut book when he finishes writing something he sometimes asks the same thing. Well...asked the same thing. He's in Heaven now. <
