Awkward discussion

Post by journeyintoinsanity on Mon Nov 23, 2015 4:10 pm

My daughter wanted to wash her hands with the Lokaccino soap. She's washing and she says to me that she loves Loki. Aw... Then she asks me if I'm going to marry Him. Um... Then she says that she wants to marry Him. O.o And I can't tell her she can't marry her dad. Or that I've already married Him. Awkward!! XD

Maybe just tell her she is too young to marry anybody, and that both parties have to agree. That should cover it for at least a decade....

Yeah, deflect and redirect. XD She came home from school one day and said a little boy kissed her cheek! What?? Since when do kids know about that stuff so young? When I was her age, boys were icky!

TV likely plays a large part for many children. There are a staggering amount of shows out there for kids that have episodes dedicated to crushes and whatnot, before the characters are even old enough to reach the dish shelf in the kitchen. Always little boy-girl pairs, at that. Parents at daycares etc. often add to it, with comments of "
what a lady's man"
when a boy is getting along with a girl, or "
what a flirt"
when a little girl is smiling.

Oh man, I know. Kids get pushed to grow up way too fast these days. I want my kid to take her time, enjoy being little, and I want to let her figure out who she is. I get the impression that she's not going to fit into anyone's mold. And she's already trying to! No, no, no!

It's kinda funny you know, since people didn't used to live that long so they had to grow up faster, get married earlier and have kids early. I think the concept of "
young wives"
has been around for a long, long time.

Yeah, that's true. I just don't want her to rush into something.

Oh yeah I know, I was just sitting here idly wondering if there was some kind of holdover, I mean it probably wasn't that many generations back that people were facing that maturity/life-span dilemma.

x3 Seems like a pretty normal thing to me, just from my nieces / nephews. When I was little I wanted to marry Han Solo. Like... 6 years old. Sometimes I think little kids, and especially girls, 'cause they're trained to think romantically very early, think that if they really really like someone or someone's important in their lives that must mean they're gonna marry them. They have parents for examples of that happening, after all. ;
P It's just not that simple and they might not realize yet.

As far I can remember I had always a crush on someone, from my brother, over the guy next door, twins from summer vacation, yeh, I liked them both, and the trail is so long I should put a paper back over my head. I don't think we went as far as kissing goes, that was too private, but in preschool age one boy and I did a body exploration, to check the differences. It was purely scientific, and I would never tell my mother about it.

Oh boy, ha ha ha! XD
When I was her age, I wanted to marry my grandmother's Siamese cat because he was "
my brother."
Kids are such a trip.

LOL yup. Kids are all kinds of wild growing up. x3
I can remember testing kissing with my friend a few doors down, at like, 9 years old, she was also a girl, and we put a piece of paper between our mouths. That totes made it not weird. :;

I always had crushes growing up too. Mostly boys who didn't know I existed or who were mean to me. I was a real Meg Griffin growing up.
