It's neat to think of ongoing folklore like this, that we have so little of in America, depending on where you were raised.
I can't think of anything here in the piedmont of North Carolina, being raised in a white Christian family. There are of course legends and ghost stories all throughout the state (and the Native stories), but I think our mountain region may have more folklore there. All the NC tales I can think of involve ghosts, the devil, and strange beasts. I'm kinda curious now if there are any "
little-folk"
stories. This area was populated mostly by English, Scottish, and Irish. And Scandinavian too if my DNA results are correct, yet I don't think it was much of a cultural influence like the others. I'm hazarding a guess that that's part of the English immigration, not so much a direct Norway-to-America thing for instance.

The lady wrote a book, I'm gonna get it and see what's it like. http://www.elfgarden.is/the-elf-book.html
(I passed the info on to Nono but he hasn't responded about it;
it's like she did something similar to his "
Voices of Vanaheim"
book so I thought he'd be interested.)

I haven't come across much more than what you described here in GA either.
Let us know how you like the book. Sounds really cool! Smile

Well, the book is cutesy, but not worth the money I paid for it.
It is very small, about 5 1/2 in, tall, half in English and half in Icelandic, with a few cute drawings.
Might be good for a kid who's into elves and fairies. Not that the love and light message isn't lost on adults ... it was just really disappointing to pay so much and not get more out of it.

Well, that's disappointing. I'll keep it in mind for my daughter in a few years. She's fascinated with fairies and the fae.
