Members-only subforums?

Post by Racheal on Mon May 04, 2015 3:42 am

Just a quick suggestion, feel free to tell me if you think the idea is unnecessary or silly Razz , but might it be an idea to have member-only post areas? For those like myself who are very overzealous with privacy and the amount of information I like to put online, a private area that isn't viewable to the public/guests on the forum might be a little more relaxed?

I know I'm a newbie to the forum, sorry if this is a dumb idea!

That's not a silly idea at all! As a matter of fact we have two such forums now. Did you have any particular content in mind you wanted to keep private so I know how to categorize it?

XXX Marvel?? Roflol... I lost it when I read that! (On an aside I can't stand the marvel versions of Thor and Loki - I recently saw the new avengers and literally flinched whenever I saw marvel Thor and/or he said something. *Shudder*

I was more thinking if some have UPG they're less comfortable posting in a public area (personally I find it hard to talk about any kind of UPG in a public setting, but then again I'm very overzealous with net privacy and what I put online in general - that's just my personal quirks) then maybe there could be a members only UPG area? Again, feel free to disregard if I'm the only one who feels this way..

I agree Racheal. I have some stuff I wouldn't mind discussing but I do not feel at all comfortable doing so where just anyone can read it.

My images of Marvel guys and gods are completely disengaged. I can see the movies without making a connection, I like it that way. (I didn't see the new Avengers yet)

On serious note, maybe the forum can be set the way only those logged in see the posts.
I think the entry is called the portal or something like that. I'm web illiterate..so... (Poppy is our tech girl)
I cringed a little once when I entered as an anon and all is out in open.
I'm member of a dolly forum, they are the sweetest people I ever met. There is nothing to hide on that forum, and yet one cannot go in unless one logs in.

I've been able to enjoy MCU!Loki more now that the comic book Loki is FREAKIN' AWESOME. And far more accurate to the spirit of the Mythological Loki.

Comic!Loki just intro'ed himself in the newest book (after another 'reset'/'rebirth') as "
the god of Stories"
which. Yes. And he is canonically and blatantly genderfluid and bisexual. And the description of magic on the first issue of Agent of Asgard is just amazing tbh.

https://24.media.tumblr.com/763438df173 ... 2_1280.jpg

I can gush about that version of Loki all day- they are doing such a great job writing him! As such, I've been able to come down on my annoyance levels with the inaccurate in spirit portrayal of Loki in the movies and see him as a completely separate being. In that way, that character is fascinating.

Also, I agree with the idea to make more forums log-in only, simply for the comfort of others. Makes a safe space!

I totally want to read that series. Here's hoping it's collected together into a graphic novel.

I can't suggest it enough! And agreed. I would buy it in a heartbeat. It seems to be doing well- that and Ms. Marvel are the two I consistently follow right now.

OH and here is the spoiler/preview page they released- https://ladygeekgirl.files.wordpress.co ... tories.png

Maybe it would be an idea to make the forum, apart from the "
General"
subforums only available to members?
I admin another forum, where you have to log in to see any subforums apart from the ones under "
General"
.

Another idea is to make the UPG subforum for members only, since that can be very personal.

Hm, I see there are some personal stuff in "
General Heathen Topics"
, too

Poppy: What is the second memebers only subforum? I can't see it.

Hahahaha! Nope! You're wrong! But now you've given me ideas! Laughing

No, one is the godspouse forum and the other one is the admin/mod meeting forum. I guess I should make a xxx forum of some sort for content that's too risque for minors or ppl who are discreet about things like that in a public setting.

Christine, did you notice the themes are not able to stay withing the subforums, they always spillover someplace else.... Why: Lokeans, you cannot put one, forget the group, to a box and make stay there!

I'm sorry. I guess it's just human nature to just blether on....
I guess I'll tighten down a bit and make a rule about it. That and irreverence.

No that's okay. It's really better to crack down gently now rather than let it grow out of hand in the future when the board membership grows. We've gotten two or three new people just this past week!

I added a new rule to the forum and made it global.

Also, Darkamber, the second forum is called Think Tank. That's in the general section and is limited right now to you, me and Kohanna ][who isn't participating right now because of a heavy college schedule and severe health problems. School takes everything out of her.

So, should I just make the UPG visible only to registered members and hidden to guests? Or what way in particular should I restrict it?

Re: Members-only subforums?

I considered that when I first made the forum but thought it might discourage new people from registering if they couldn't check it out first. However, now we have almost 60 people here and it would be easier to do that than move posts around. I'll do that. Make all invisible except for the rules.
It would be a good way to discourage any future trollers too. Which we've been lucky about so far. If this forum grows members, some chode from Heathen Lore or AFA is bound to come in and try to cut us a new asshole. Of course if anyone registered and then did that, I'd punt them straight to the curb. They'd probably call me cowardly for doing that but if they did, it's just a taunt anyhow and I wont rise up to that occasion because I really don't give two tiny, hard, rabbit shits what they think about me, Loki, or us. I will play the exclusion game with anyone who wants to give us a hard time. Their criticism would just be taunts and not to engage in lively debate so it wouldn't be constructive. And I know this because I've seen their trash talk on their forum.

Sweet.
On the other hand, I am gonna lose all my karmic points for every slip-up about you-know-who. *flails* It's relevant to me, I promise! ^_^

I don't have a karma or point system. We're not a big enough forum member wise for that. We're adults and i also realize habit's are hard to break. Reminders will suffice for now. Private reminders.

Don't feel bad, I'm the other person who's bad about it. So I have to curtail myself as well. Especially because I'm a forum admin. I'm supposed to be setting the tone.
