rune, Loki, heathenism and magic booklets

I have a few of these self-published booklets. They're pretty down-to-earth, somewhat humorous, and interesting. Not exactly scholarly works and I don't know enough to verify the info - it's more like the authors' personal practices and knowledge from over the years.

Ooh, spell books! I've been looking for spells, but most I've found were Wiccan. Had to rearrange them to be more Norse. I'm going to have to order these. Smile

I have his book, Loki, For You. He is amdown to earth writer and I enjoyed his light and humorous approach. Included in this book is a whole section called The Runes According to Loki. It's a pretty complex system similar to reversed readings. Basically it's runes+mischief. My only gripe about this book is the price tag considering it's mere 100 page length. After awhile you can see it's obcious that 30-35 percent of the book contents is irrelevant or barely relevant 'filler' all thrown together in a hodge podge clutter that's not terribly impressive. I think both author and Heathen community would be better served if he'd simply made this a downloadable book for 7 or 8 bucks. In my opinion, not worth 14 bucks. Nice effort though if It'd only been seven bucks

I agree about the prices. (and I have the Loki book too)
I wanted to buy more but really feel like they should be cheaper ebooks. You start to see repetitive info in different ones, which is good for learning retention but price-wise, they really need to update and consolidate their works into a better format.
Still, if you only buy one I'd say get the Loki booklet just for a new perspective you don't see in other works.

Just so long as Loki and His family aren't written about badly. Nothing turns me off quicker than that.

No, not at all. The authors' regard Loki highly and have good ways to help get to know Him and the runes in modern terms.

Loki gets really good treatment in his book. The only thing that really put me off is the amount of espionage and government and military intel he writes about which is obviously a pet hobby of his. He has a newsletter about that sort of stuff. I'm not sure I agree with him when he says that Loki is responsible for the invention of stuff like landmines. I dunno. Gods are many faceted, but I, for one, think that land mines and atom bombs are solely the brainchild of human beings. Very stupid human beings.

I would have been much happier if he'd written more about Loki and his family from a Jungian and/or Freudian pov. Then again maybe that's not his bag. Maybe I should write that book!

You should! I'd read it!! Smile

Loki being responsible for the invention of bombs and the like? Yeah, kind of a stretch. But it wouldn't surprise me if He had a hand in creating stink-bombs. :;

If you take the lore as any sort of guide to go by as far as their character goes, you can tell that Loki doesn't really engage in malice that's not emotionally provoked in some fashion. In any case I don't think he does it in cold or calculated fashion. When it's not emotionally provoked [like his feelings being hurt or being angry at the hypocrisy and self-congratulatory bullshit that led to Lokasenna]I would say his least valid excuse for destructive behavior and trickery is good old fashioned boredom. I think more than the other gods, Loki cannot abide boredom long before he goes nuts.

This is why I see such a cat-like nature in Him.
When dogs are bored, they destroy things. When cats are bored, they get into mischief to entertain themselves and annoy the piss out of their caretakers. lol
I think the Sheil books are right when they call Loki a "
busybody."

I also like this description of how cat and dog play:

Dog plays for his master, needs approval and encouragement. When dog is left alone he rests somewhere waiting for master to come.
Cats don't give a shit. You cannot make a cat play when cat doesn't want to.
Cats don't need approval, they have fun, regardless you are there or not. They are fun to watch.

I have a theory that all cats are at least 37% Loki.

My cats are more like dogs. They worship the ground I walk on. Dusty follows me about the house all day long, even to the bathroom. Sage jumps into the bathtub and meows when I'm on the crapper. I still don't know what's up with that. He sounds so concerned when he does that.

Maybe he's just asking if everything's coming out alright?

My Mikey is my shadow, too. Follows me around, helps with whatever he can. It's nice, until he tries to help me cook. Hope you like cat hair as seasoning. :;

Mine are Siamese that's why they have that trait and also why they need to be in pairs.

Lol. Cats like to be helpers ... or more like supervisors.
