Anti-godspouse people

Post by Corannhena on Thu Mar 19, 2015 11:41 am

(Kinda wanted to post this--or part of it--on my Loki tumblr but was afraid I'd get flak for it. I've been seeing this kind of stuff around lately and wanted to rant a little :p )

Every so often there'll be a post circulating my Tumblr dash originally posted by someone who either doesn't understand or is apparently completely against godspousery/spirit marriage. They always seem to have the same arguments--it's "
new"
, therefore it's not "
real"
(despite there being multiple resources about spirit marriage dating back several hundred years), that it's not "
sacred"
or they're not "
taking their religion seriously"
(I just have to say "
buh?"
to this because, well... buh? And I would DEARLY love to know where it is written that deity/human relationships, spoused or not, must always be All Seriousness All The Time. Maybe with some deities, but not others, and especially not with gods like Loki :p ) and the one that I kind of have issues with, some statement along the lines of "
why would a god choose this person out of seven billion to marry?"
because it implies (at least) three things: one, that every person on the planet worships/follows or is even aware of that particular god;
two, that that person is the ONLY (mortal) spouse of that god (which I'm like 97% sure is definitely not the case with most gods, and especially not with Loki);
and three, that all seven billion people on the planet would even WANT to marry said god even if they do (hypothetically) worship/follow them, and possibly other issues as well. Especially with Loki, in any case, you also have the "
you're just 'married' to Loki because of the Marvel movies/Tom Hiddleston"
people (which I personally was not--in fact I STILL haven't seen either of the Thor movies, and I only saw The Avengers after inviting Loki into my life--but I'm not gonna judge those who were--heck, I DO think Tom Hiddleston is a dreamboat). And... there's probably more points but I can't think of anything right now :/

Yeah .. that illustrates my confusion and hesitancy coming into all this.
And I HAVE seen the movies and knew full well my fancrush;
all the positive/negative (mostly negative) things I read really made me question why I even wanted to follow Loki in the first place.
Surely the Hellenic followers have been through this over the years ("
Hercules"
and "
Xena,"
Percy Jackson, "
Clash of the Titans"
reboot, etc.), but Loki's popularity really takes the cake. ("
The Dark World"
had to be re-edited to fit in MOAR LOKI.)
I've been a pagan for nearly half my life and I'd never seen it before so it was a real eye-opener. Now I wonder why the Egyptian pantheon doesn't take on mortal lovers (that I'm aware of). That was something more tied up with royalty and priesthood - Amun for instance didn't go around hounding every cute female He saw. If you look at a god like Min - who ALWAYS has a boner - you know it's not because they don't like sexy-time. Read some Egyptian love poetry and you'll see how sensual a people they were.

Anyway, I thought o/Our relationship would be an exchange of adoration and attention and nothing more. I didn't like that admitting or having Marvel fandom was already eliciting negativity and I dared not pursue something that was surely coming from earthly interest alone. So I was REALLY blown away by the romantic messages from Beth's reading. But you know what, He also said through that reading not to worry about what other people think, not to be ashamed or embarrassed.

For some reason, my eyes keep gravitating to your MOAR LOKI, and I giggle. Could be that it's written in all caps, or it could be Him. He used to tease me about Marvel Loki. :;
):

Yeah, to the people who badmouth godspouses and godspousery, I say "
Good day."
(UPG, LokI likes That 70s Show. Anywho...) If someone already has their mind made up that spirit marriage is bad/a made up thing, I'm not wasting my breath. I deal with a 5 year-old enough of the time to know that stubborn minds can't be changed.

I like the replies in this Tumblr thread: http://grimnirs-child.tumblr.com/post/1 ... -skadisman Especially lokiwtf's (I really like her writing style, I still can't put my finger on why) and grimnirs-child's, below hers.

edit: also another one of the anti-GS posts I recently read had something along the lines of "
godspouses are mostly just teenage girls who decided they wanted to marry a god"
and uh. Maybe it's just me, but I have not come across a SINGLE actual teenage godspouse (at least, not any Lokean ones), or at least not any who advertise such. Most of them I've seen have been AT LEAST 25, usually quite a bit older (35+). So idk where all these teenage godspouses are :/

That's a great thread. And I like lokiwtf's blog, too.
You know, there's just no way to judge a person's age by the way they write on the internet. I don't know if teenagers announce their youth or people just make assumptions. There are a ton of people of all ages who can't type a decent paragraph to save their life.
And while the haters accuse us of all being queer, young, female, Hiddlestoners, outcasts or whatever, at the same time I think they are just confusing all the Marvel fans and their wish to "
marry"
the actor. They do a search for "
Loki"
and complain about all the pics of Hiddles. Then they find Lokeans and just lump us all together, especially since some are fans also.
It's revulsion, it's bigotry, it's jealousy, it's who knows ...
It's bigger than they know, it's older than they realize, it transcends fandom and the internet. But I can personally understand how someone might feel encountering it for the first time.

Maybe it was "
suggested"
? :;
):

These basher people... have they even bothered to ask Loki how He feels about the Marvel stuff? He told me that He likes the younger version from the Agents of Asgard comics. As for the film version, He said that, yeah, some stuff was way off, but at least they depicted the character as hot. He said they did get that one thing right. :;

Lol. That sexy fox.
It's funny you bring up about asking Him. I just read this blog post today:
http://askalokean.tumblr.com/post/11432 ... oki-thinks

It is kind of sad that we have to deal with that skeptical backlash;
and Lokeans probably more than any other.
But I like to agree with the general consensus that Loki likes the attention, and it starts most people on a journey of exploration and study they might not have undertaken otherwise. He's very complex, as any god is, and all these depictions capture some small aspect of Him that helps our understanding. It's especially a benefit considering how truly little we know about the Northern Tradition compared to say Egypt or Greece. And maybe this is more of a Loki-way of reaching out to people, through entertainment (stories) instead of dry texts.

Yeah, to me, He didn't seem to mind how you found Him. The important part is that you did. That seems to be what He cares about most. I have a Lego Loki keychain that He teased me about. :;

My Avengers Loki cost almost $600 ... -_- I used Christmas money and an Amazon gift card to help get it though.
The Dark World version costs less but I don't like it as much.
I was ready to shell out whatever it took to get the BJD doll until I realized it wasn't for sale, lol.

Christine, it was poor joke, from my side. I never sold a doll and I have big number of them. HT Loki is staying.

Original Blythe was a doll made by Kenner company in 1972. Nobody liked them back then. Later they become very popular thanks to photographer Gina Garan. Japanese bought the license and put them on collectors wanted list. Most collectors are photographers, and some also customize them for business.

Blythe doll changes the eye color 4x by pulling the string on back of her head.

From this hobby one of my flash waring lines is "
Don't you dare to pull my string!"

This is Kozy Kape made in 2001, the one I mentioned above.

Lokakisa, I'm gonna kill you! Evil or Very Mad
Or as the Blythe community members say: You can kiss my shiny behind! Laughing

Ha ha ha, my Loki side is showing now, I hope you understand that! Very Happy

Seriously, someone came to my home and when they saw 36 of these lined up on shelf, one guy said same thing: "
Rose those dolls are creepy."

I had only one answer: That is how I like them!

I know. Believe it or not, I got first one for my daughter. I never played with dolls in my life. I had one as kid and didn't know what to do with it.
But when I've seen Blythe in person, opened the box to examine what did I got, I knew I'm in trouble!
