Vikings

Post by Moon Rouge on Fri Mar 13, 2015 9:53 am

Hundred years after everyone else I discovered the Viking series.....
In last two days I've seen first 4 episodes on line.
(http://www.watch-tvseries.net/series460 ... of-Passage)
I ordered first and second season on Amazon now, waiting..impatiently!
I have to say among else I admire Floki.

This show is fabulous. (Obviously I like it, since I use Lagertha as my profile pic.) Floki is awesome. He's one of my favorites. Smile

I've seen a few eps of season 2, but I missed the entirety of season 1 and haven't seen any of season 3. Luckily, all of it is available On Demand right now. Haven't gotten around to actually watching, though (I just found out it was On Demand like... three days ago).

I think you can also watch it from the History Channel's website. I don't know if the previous seasons are available there, but I'm sure this current season is.

I set up to record History Channel, Season 3 is on now. History channel on line has also the new episodes available. The old season episodes are only 3 minutes recaps. The link above worked for me, but the screen is too small and in full mode you can see is low quality. I want to see the first and second season first, have to watch for mailman!
I rather get the disc, than to pay for demand.

If I'm not mistaken, Seasons 1 and 2 are available through Amazon Prime Instant Video and Hulu Plus.
I don't have cable anymore so I watch Season 3 through the Playstation Network. They're probably all on iTunes also.

When you want to pay for it there are plenty options. :mrgreen: (Isn't it always so)

I used to watch it on a website called Couchtuner. (Our cable was fucked up for months after we moved. Long story.) That's free, but the quality isn't always great.

Those free sites are never good, but good enough for info.
I think Couchtuner is a bit better than the link I posted, it has higher resolution listed.
I didn't know about it, checked it now. They asked to create free account, no thank you. So I cannot say how it is for sure.
Lagertha is awesome!

I love Vikings. Season Three! Yippee! I adore George Blagden as Athelstan (even though it makes me a bit of a cradle-snatcher! :;

Finally got around to watching S1E01 and while I'll have to watch a few more eps to really form an opinion on the show, I did like the first episode. I may watch episode 2 in a few minutes, here, actually.

I liked how they called the thing Bjorn went to, literally, "
the thing"
(that is totally something I would do), and how Ragnar (? I think it was him, anyway) implies to Bjorn later on that the only difference between Floki and Loki is that Floki isn't a god.

I noticed that too, and I was like "
why are they just calling it a 'thing'?"

Turns out "
thing"
is Old Norse for an assembly.

That's right. It's written þing in Old Norse. If you want to know more about what went on in them, read some of the Icelandic sagas! Smile
Those who like Ragnar in Vikings may also want to check out the Ragnar sagas/tales.

Ah, okay. So it's a "
"
, then.

I usually watch with closed captioning on (I don't have a hearing problem [well, physical hearing anyway], it's just a habit I started when I was a teenager), so the names come up whenever someone new/off-screen says something, so I can remember them pretty easily. I'm on episode... 7, I think. I like Floki, Lagertha, Ragnar, and Athelstan (the monk), also Bjorn and Gyda, and I don't (or didn't, depending on if they've died) like Earl Haraldson, Svein (Haraldson's "
underling"
if you will), or King Aelle. (Everyone else is pretty much neutral right now)

Miss Thing! Good one! <

I watch with caption often too.

How funny is this, I was reading about the runes yesterday, Thorsson's Handbook of Rune Magic, and here goes the comments for Tiwaz:
The T-rune embodies the force ruled by the god Ása-Týr. Týr is the Norse god of law and justice, who governs proceedings at the thing (the Germanic general assembly). Then I've seen it here on forum too.

When I got my discs today, watched first 3 episodes, and I couldn't miss the thing!

I'm behind everyone now. Besides all above, the opening song is impressive.

I love the song, too. You should hear the entire thing. (Song, not assembly!) "
If I Had a Heart"
bt Fever Ray. The band Wardruna does a lot of the background music. They're good, too. Smile

I like the theme song a lot too--in fact I listened to the whole thing on Spotify earlier and added it to my Songs list (and "
shared"
it on my twitter, fb, and tumblr)

Just watched episode 8. I keep forgetting to mention the Seer is like hella-creepy--he reminds me of a cross between Voldemort and the Pale Man from Pan's Labyrinth. Also I really like that they included Loki in the list of gods they were hailing at Uppsala. (I actually kind of thought they wouldn't...)

edit: also I am glad the gods (well, Loki and Sigyn anyway) will accept offerings of marshmallow Peeps and Cadbury creme eggs in the modern age, rather than blood sacrifices :p

I like how the show incorporates a lot of mysticism and symbolism (not all of it I get though). I think they've done a pretty good job of capturing Heathen life vs. Christian life. For those catching up, you'll see it more in Seasons 2 &
3. You're going to love the silver fox King Ecbert when they meet him in Wessex.
It's been hard to pick a favorite character;
I like them all really. I love the way Ragnar talks. Lagertha makes an awesome role model for women. Rollo seems to go through more shit than everybody else but always comes out stronger for it (and maybe better).
The Seer is interesting;
I wish they'd explain him a little more.
I'd have to say my least favorite is Aslaug.

Without giving away spoilers, I really want to know who that wanderer dude was supposed to be! They never said. I have a theory or two... but I don't want to spoil it for you all who aren't caught up.
