Hail, Loki... literally.

Post by Corannhena on Wed Mar 04, 2015 1:30 am

This is copied/pasted from an entry in my Loki tumblr, with some minor edits since I originally posted it the day after it happened:

So for some reason I’ve only occasionally thought the words “Hail Loki” in my head, and I’ve never said them out loud, but the latter has more to do with my self-consciousness about talking out loud (which is probably silly, I know, but hey we all have our hang-ups). But one day back in April before going to bed (I’m nocturnal… :p ) I could feel him around me, his energy being rather warm/blankety/soothing that time, and I still didn’t say it out loud, but I just kept repeating “Hail Loki” in my head, over and over. Was still thinking it when I went to bed, and while I was laying there

it

literally

started

hailing

outside

And it actually took me a good thirty seconds or so to realise the pun, so to speak, and when I did I was like “Hail… Hail? HAIL. OH MY GOD.”

(In a later entry, I had posted that he'd confirmed the hail was, indeed, from him.)

That is the most fucking awesome pun. Ever.

I'm a HUGE fan of puns, especially if they incorporate visuals or other physical manifestations.

This is so real it is incredible!
This is what happened to me years ago and not with Loki, but anyhow, here we go:

First I have to point out I am not Jewish and nobody from my mother or father side was, something I am very positive about. My parents had records checked during WW2, everyone had back then.
My aunt, my father's sister, had a boyfriend, there was whole lot of complications why there were not married, long story good for a book.
He boyfriend name was Dr. Johan Faust..... he was a lawyer and very real.
He collected small paintings from unknown artists and old records.
When my aunt died I inherited the leftover of his collection;
a few pictures, a few old records, and ancient wind up turntable, one of those pictured on "
His Master's Voice"
record label. The records were mostly German, some of back then known singer Zarah Leander.

There was a record sang in Hebrew. One side played Owinu Malkeinu and on the reverse was Eli Eli. I remember names of songs for a reason.
First time I played both songs very softly. I liked the male signing voice.

On one bright sunny summer day without a cloud on blue sky I put that record on and blasted the volume to max.
The sky got dark, very dark, and the soon there was a lighting and thunder, no rain. I stopped to play. The sky got back to blue.
I was home alone and just got the feeling I shouldn't play that record.

Then I invited a friend and told her I can call the storm. I wanted to know if anything happens when I play that record. I didn't want to be home alone.
It was nice day and surely the storm and thunder started instantly and my friend said she saw the round bolt coming down from sky.
We both got spooked, stopped to play the record, and all was back as before.
It was the Owinu Malkeinu song. We never made it to the flip side of the record.

That's so creepy!
Calling up a storm by playing a song!

It was creepy, that is why I remember it. It didn't sound exactly as a song, more as a chant.
I goggled the name yesterday, I was not sure with the spelling. It is some kind of Jewish prayer, calling their god.
My explanation is I was trespassing.
I've also seen on YouTube yesterday, song spelled Avinu Malkeinu, Barbara Streisand sings it.
The spelling I remember is listed under music from Amsterdam Synagogue

I did not dare play any, just in case, so I don't know if they are the same thing.

That song sounds scary.

On the "
hail"
pun: recently they named a winter storm Thor. It hailed. It hailed in Huntington Beach! That's the first thing I thought, somebody's been saying Hail Thor.

Hahaha. Because the Germanic / Norse pantheon is creepier than most. Seriously! Every single one of them is a little maudlin from time to time. I guess you could expect that from a people who have loooong winters with short-ass days and long nights.
