Interesting Non-Fiction Reads

Post by njm on Tue Feb 03, 2015 1:46 am

Does anyone have any non-fiction works to recommend?

I just read Gods and Worshippers in the Viking and Germanic World by Thor Ewing. I found it pretty interesting, especially the chapter on Seidr which mentions Odin and Loki in relation to magical workings.

I also found Dumezil's essay on Loki an intriguing read. I didn't agree with all he said, but he made some interesting points and comparisons. As far as I know, it's only available in French or German, though, so you'd need to be able to read one of those languages to get hold of it.

Finally, I just read a book looking at the role tricksters play in culture (Trickster Makes This World by Lewis Hyde)

I've read "
Trickster makes this world"
, too.
I quite liked it. I took me a while to get through it, though. It's a thick book with very small letters.
